#IKEA KALLAX SHELF WALL MOUNT HOW TO#
Now figuring out how to do it was the hard part.
#IKEA KALLAX SHELF WALL MOUNT TV#
1) We were able to visually block even more of our bed with the TV. 2) We saved our precious wall space (dedicated to my newfound love of gallery walls) and 3) the TV was no longer even a feature, it seemed to blend into the space rather than make a statement, which was perfect! I know I'm totally crazy but sometimes you have to think outside the box in order to get the results you want! Having the idea to mount the TV to the Kallax actually killed three birds with one stone. So, I finally decided I wanted the TV to be mounted ON the Kallax. I mean, no offense to anyone who has one as the focal piece in their living room, but talk about the epitome of a generation being addicted to screens! Plus, where would I put my beautiful gallery wall?! The other logical spot was right on the wall across from the dining table, but I absolutely hate the idea of having the TV be the focal piece of the dining room. We could put it in the bar - but then we would have to sit at the uncomfortable bar stools to watch it, and buy a rotating wall mount so we could watch from the kitchen. However, I was really struggling with where to put it. Josh & I had three TVs between the two of us, and we already had two upstairs, so we wanted to put one downstairs so we could watch TV while cooking or cleaning down there. Once I figured out my solution to divide up the space, it was time to decorate. I chose the largest Kallax that Ikea sold because it was large enough to keep the bedroom out of sight, but the pass-through storage was perfect for allowing light to reach through to the dining room.

I needed to divide the area between our bedroom area and the dining room area, but had to be careful not to choose anything too solid that would block the light coming from the small windows in the bedroom area. Now I'm all for open concept plans, but I don't like the idea of having our bed fully visible when we have guests over or even while I'm making or eating dinner.

In our lower level, we had one large open space that I divided up with tall storage units and curtains placed strategically behind the columns and support beams. The only doors were the front door and the bathroom door.

When we moved into our apartment, I was coming from a tiny studio to a HUGE (technically one bedroom) apartment with no doors or walls. If you are a renter like me, Ikea storage units are absolutely essential because they are affordable AND efficient. After years of city living I've learned how to maximize my vertical space for optimal storage efficiency. If you live in the city, or in a smaller starter home, then you know storage and space come at a premium.

Hey DIYers! I'm super excited to share this amazing space-saving Ikea hack with you today!
